Okay, this isn't much of an update, since I have no pictures yet. The new pup came home on Friday afternoon. His mom had just given him a bath and brought over his crate, dishes, cologne, eye wipes, and all his outfits. I believe he's a retired purse dog. His vet records show that he has *not* been to the vet since he was purchased, and so his vaccinations are NOT up to date as she described. More alarmingly, he is incredibly underweight. You can't tell by looking at him, since he's so fluffy but when he was snuggling with me on the couch on Saturday, and I put my hand over his bum, all I felt was bone. He is so fucking skinny. He feels like those emaciated horses look no muscle. No fat. just hip bones, jutting out, each vertibrae sticking out like a string of grotesque pearls, each rib springing out. Looks like I have a rescue dog after all. First thing, get him on pet insurance and get him to the vet. Get him off kibbles n' bits and on to a decent food. He's had this weird combination of overindulgence and neglect. He knows tricks, he's incredibly smart, but he is very stubborn. He has big time "little -" syndrome. Thankfully, he does seem to be much house trained and he's not much of a barker. He is very cute. All the other immediately accepted him. This is what conversations with gets us transitions as easily as they can come. The cats are totally cool with him. They show him "the paw" and he refrains from jumping all over them. He has a good deal of self-restraint around the cats. However, he's all over Mocha. She's very tolerant, and all she can do to reprimand him when he tries to mount her is BARK LOUDLY IN HIS FACE. This doesn't phase him. We're teaching him the command "RESPECT!" which means "get your nose out of mocha's bum!" He learned "pawn on ground" very quickly. He's used to being allowed to jump all over everyone, and now he has to learn to behave like a "big boy dog". I quickly figured out why she bathed him before she brought him over he gets pee all over his belly. He started to stink like pee after the first day! I guess that's what the cologne was for.
