It's been a time since I worked in the corporate world and like you I had an impossible time finding any entry level position that would hire a person with a graduate degree. The solution I came up with was to take a job with little or no pay that was prestigious at a nonprofit organization. I applied for a low paying position (minimum wage then was $5) at a really swanky museum in Manhattan ed the Frick Collection. They normally give positions to wealthy society ladies. I think they felt a little sorry for me so they paid me $7 an hour. Hardly anyone applied for the job because the pay was bad. It looked fantastic on my resume and kept me going until I found a "real" job. FWIW places like that are usually staffed by society ladies who spend all their time doing charitable work and if someone in a tough situation like yours applied they would probably put that person on the very top of the list and pay them or possibly pay them well and find a use for their graduate degree. Those women are usually total sweethearts who devote their entire lives to charitable work, they taught me Excel and Word, filled in for me when I went on "real" job interviews and were constantly supportive and nice to me. Consider museums, arts societies, charities, the, -'s museums, nonprofits related to your degree, the offices or campaigns of local politicians .. Unlike in the corporate world being in a shelter is not going to be something you have to hide, it's going to be a slight plus and your graduate degree is going to be something they can actually put to use unlike the entry level jobs. I explore adoption if I ever get married and cannot conceive. I guess I'm just scarred AND by past experiences. My brother's FAS just about wrecked our family. I stay active, I'm involved with volunteering, a local church, I'm a Rotarian I'm gaining an insecurity complex, lol. I have done all of what I know to do to be attractive, be myself, be open and fun. In fact, my friends all say I'm this great catch, yet none of them are fishing for me.
