The immigration system in this country is messed up because there are no safeguards to keep people like your husband from the system, and they are swamped by the sheer of people including your husband who come to the United States for the opportunities it provides, and yet scoff at the very laws that MAKE this a country desirable. It is not "punishing" him. It is enforcing the laws of the United States. You don't get to pick and choose the laws you want to follow. The fact that you would an illegal immigrant without him making sure that his status is solidified puts your judgement in question, as far as I'm concerned, but what's done is done, and now you are having to deal with the consequences of too much "luuv" and not enough common sense mixed in with a dash of rational thinking.
