I think it's reg B but can't remember the letter that people in financial services are supposed to offer the same products to everyone. You can't encourage -/black/female people to go in to debt by hot adult looking sex only offering them credit cards and then turn around and give solid financial advice to middle aged white men about home ownership and retirement planning. It's illegal. But everyone does it including financial services people who are -/black female. The prejudices really run deep and they are almost second nature. When I worked in banking a time ago I had to consciously remind myself to for example ask the 25 year unmarried old black woman with a savings account if she was saving for a down payment on a home or ask the Latino couple if they wanted a college savings plan for their. I actually made a LOT of sales that way. Sometimes people would even look surprised and say something like "thanks, I've been doing this on my own, I've been wanting to talk to someone". Even with the regulations and the training it was really hard to treat people the same. As as people don't get the same financial services and planning some people always be victimized by predatory lending. I wonder how people who got adjustable rate mortgages from crooks like Countrywide could actually have qualified for fixed rate 30 year loans if their banks had talked to them about it.
