My brother ( a biologist who is probably the most Aspie, Cooperish person in my family) was driving home to Baltimore from Ocean City. He was driving through a kind of rural area on the Eastern Shore and stopped in to a bar where some redneckish people were drunk and making racist remarks. My brother thought this would be great opportunity to have a conversation about how most biologists reject race as a category because so few genes are involved and they usually just determine superficial traits like looks and disease resistance. His thesis: gender differences are much more significant than racial differences. The men in the bar would actually have more in common with black men than their wives and girlfriends and might have more compatible relationships if they dated them instead. Fortunately they thought he was totally hilarious and it was some kind of joke. He did have enough social skills to realize later that he could have gotten people upset.
